CENTRE FRAMED
RULE OF THIRDS
The centre framed version flattens the image and thus increases the characters' their relative size in the space. I think this leads to a greater focus upon the characters themselves, their expressions and behaviour, as opposed to upon the space and the atmosphere of the scene. The rule of thirds version feels more dynamic in its comparative instability and its asymmetry, and in this way the composition perhaps lends itself better to the scenes narrative of a drunken party game. It also, as a result of the increased depth in the space, creates a focus upon the atmosphere that the centre framed composition lacks, and since the surrounding characters' behaviour and the room decor are important in setting the mood for the scene I believe the rule of thirds version is a more narratively effective way to shoot this scene.
